Naturalism--as Religion, within Religions, or without Religion? What are the consequences of science-inspired naturalism for religion? In this conference, we will explore and evaluate options available to those who take science seriously. Briefly, these could be characterized as replacement (religious naturalism), reform (naturalistic strands within religious traditions), and rejection (secular humanism). Plenary speakers will include Owen Flanagan (philosophy and cognitive neuroscience), Marcelo Gleiser (physics and astronomy; Templeton Prize 2019), Ursula Goodenough (biologist, president of the Religious Naturalist Association), Sarah Lane Ritchie, Janet Newton (chapel speaker), Carol Wayne White, and Willem B. Drees. Program co-chairs are Willem B. Drees & Barbara Whittaker-Johns. Proposals for short papers or panels are invited; deadline November 30, 2019.
